ADDIS Foundation for Community Health
Improving the lives of those with vision impairments.
The ADDIS Foundation for Community Health is driven by a profound commitment to transform the lives of blind children and adults in Ethiopia. We believe that every person, regardless of visual ability, deserves access to knowledge, healthcare, and opportunity. Our mission is twofold: to empower those living with visual impairments and to work tirelessly toward eliminating preventable blindness in Ethiopia.
Our approach is grounded in compassion and impact, combining education and comprehensive care to uplift individuals and communities alike. We focus our efforts on three core pillars that provide essential resources, empowering individuals and igniting hope for a healthier, more inclusive future:
Medical Management
This program focuses on treating and managing visual impairments with medical interventions. By improving access to eye care and assistive devices, we ensure that individuals receive timely, essential treatment and resources to preserve or restore vision where possible.
Healthcare Workforce Capacity Building:
We invest in strengthening the healthcare workforce by training local professionals to diagnose, manage, and treat visual impairments. This capacity-building initiative aims to create sustainable, long-term improvements in eye health care within the communities we serve.
Empowering Blind Children and Adults
At ADDIS Foundation for Community Health, we believe education is a powerful tool to empower children and adults impacted by blindness. By offering essential resources such as white canes, braille materials, assistive technology, as well as food, clothing, or other daily living supports, we equip individuals with the skills they need to learn, thrive, and live independently.
Since its founding in 2018, the ADDIS Foundation for Community Health has:
Donated over 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses.
Supplied more than 700 assistive devices and braille materials.
Partnered with over 30 local and international healthcare organizations, institutions, and community groups
